This was last Friday’s lunch. We have not been going out for lunches because we are all so so so busy. Our company just implemented an Oracle ERP system and it’s requiring us to be on standby to fix stuff. Arrghh. Don’t you hate teething problems?
But on Friday the 5 five of us decided we should venture out to eat. We are getting sick of the same old food we are eating. So we went to Karu’s at Upper Bukit Timah Road, that’s not too far away.
This bright blue and green signboard greeted us. Hmmm this signboard must be very old! Look, the telephone number is still showing 7 digits! That’s very very long ago!
We walked in the shop and you can smell the food! Our clothes must have sucked in all the smell! So if you are going to meet friends later, don’t come here. But if you are interested in food, you can visit this place.
The Fish Head curry. We think it’s nice. 5 times nicer than the other famous one at Dempsey. hehe.. We also thought it was nicer than the one at Gayatri. But this is our tastebuds… Not sure if we needed to specify the size. But when it came it was a large head! $30.
I love their Chicken Masala. We had 2 pieces that we picked from the glass counter. $4 per piece.
I think I love food that has lots of onions and spices.
This is the Mutton Curry. Not too bad. I am not a very mutton person, but I find it ok lah. $7.50
We thought our colleague ordered “begedil’ for us. No, this is not potato cakes. It is fish cake! It’s like fish floss made into a ball and deep fried. $1.20 each.
This is our Vegetarian Briyani Appalam. $3.20
You can ask for as much rice, papadams and veg as you want. I did not have any refills except for the okra. I like mushy mushy okra!
(one colleague preferred the White Rice version. That’s $2.80)
Oh how sweet the sweetish Teh Tarik. $1
After we have finished our meal, we noticed that other tables had the banana leaves folded. We wanted to fold it too, but we forgot which way we should fold it. So many people are folding it differently. So when in doubt, ask!
The service staff told us, if you like it fold the leave away from you. As shown in the photo below.
If you don’t like it, then fold the leaf towards yourself.
None of us folded it this way, because we like it. The following photo is only for demo purposes. haha….
It was a great escape out from the usual food we have. Now, back to work!
